This is the story about the men of Company F, 127th Infantry, 32nd Division, Wisconsin National Guard who left Sheboygan, Wisconsin for Federal Service on October 20, 1940. They would fight in the Battle for Buna on the island of New Guinea against the Japanese in World War II. The story is filled with quotes by the author's father, Roland Stoelb.

Time in Hell The Battle for Buna The story of Company F 127th Infantry Richard A Stoelb 9780981897493 Books

My father was in Company K of the 127th at the same time as the author's father and fought in Buna and Aitape as well. Unlike the author's father, mine spoke very little of his experience other than about his BAR rifle, malaria, and dysentery:
Me: How did you get those big scars? Dad:"mortar fire"
Me: How many Japanese did you kill?
Dad: "I don't know"
Me: Were you scared?
Dad: "Sometimes".
Me: Can we go camping sometime?
Dad: "No. I had enough of that in the war"

He promised to tell me more when I got older, but never described too much more. Thanks to the author, I was better able to understand the primitive, terrible conditions that my father endured, and in the process, found new, increased respect for him and the other combat troops that he served with.
Thank you.

Time in Hell The Battle for Buna The story of Company F 127th Infantry Richard A Stoelb 9780981897493 Books Reviews

I'm sorry, but I simply cannot buy this book. If you "rote" it and you "recemend" it then I can only imagine how full of spelling and grammatical errors it is. Now, I am not a grammar Nazi by any means, I am sure that there will be a few mistakes in this post, however, I am not claiming to be an author. To write a review of your own book, is in the first place, of poor taste. Of course you will give it a good review - it is your book. However, when the review exudes so much laziness that you can't even capitalize the first word, and you misspell a simple word but won't correct it, then how can one think that the text you authored will be any better? Sure an editor would have caught most of the glaring grammatical errors, but what of the historical inaccuracies that are sure to accompany this kind of laziness. No sir, I will not purchase this book.
When my mother told me about this book, I was incredibly excited. My grandfather served in this unit and two of the photographs in this book include him even. It's amazing to read a first hand account of what he and his fellow soldiers experienced, especially since I never got the chance to hear him talk about it. This book means so much to me, for the pictures of my grandfather and for the story it tells.
nice book, great shape
OK
Good story, just not quite the detail that I was looking for
Great story of how it was from the fighting man''s perspective- A family member was there and I learned first hand about that terrible time.I have bought a couple of other books about the Red Arrow Division. Funny thing, my relative entered the US ARMY in the 26th Division but was mustered
out of the Red Arrow. That is another story!
A great review of a terrible conflict. The brave soldiers of the 32nd Division took on an enemy far more skilled and savvy then they were at the were at the onset of the war. Largely forgotten and on the tail end of the supply stream, they managed to eek out surprising victories and held the Japanese forces at bay from moving on Austrailia. All that wore the Red Arrow are true American Heros.
